Senior Auditor – Frederick, MD Full Time

Introduction:

We’re partnering with a well-established CPA and advisory firm that has been serves client bases including nonprofits, government contractors, commercial businesses, and other privately held organizations, giving its assurance professionals exposure to engagements where understanding the client’s operations is just as important as getting the financial statements right.

The firm is seeking an experienced In-Charge / Senior Auditor with 3+ years of public accounting audit experience. This is a hands-on role for someone ready to take greater ownership of engagements, build client relationships, and help develop junior auditors while continuing to deepen their technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

• Take responsibility for assigned areas of audit and assurance engagements, including planning, workpapers, review notes, and completion.
• Communicate directly with clients, respond to inquiries, coordinate schedules, and participate in management or Board presentations.
• Evaluate accounting systems and internal controls and identify areas of weakness or risk.
• Prepare financial statements and management letters and perform technical reviews of lower-risk areas.
• Research accounting and auditing issues and apply GAAP and GAAS appropriately.
• Monitor budgets, engagement progress, and deadlines while maintaining quality standards.
• Review prior-year workpapers and plan assigned engagement areas effectively.
• Mentor and coach Staff Auditors through day-to-day guidance, training, and onboarding.
• Participate in recruiting, networking, business development, and community activities.

Requirements:

• 3+ years of public accounting audit experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and GAAS.
• Not-for-profit audit experience is a plus.
• Experience mentoring or supervising staff preferred.
• Strong client communication and relationship-building skills.
• Excellent organization, analytical ability, and problem-solving skills.
• CPA license or active pursuit of the CPA preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
